E3 Sneak Peaks of Sony's Next Generation Portable

Jun 3, 2011 05:42 PM

In just a few days, the biggest expo in the video game industry will unleash the newest games and hardware from all of the major companies. Nintendo is set to unveil its Wii-replacing Project Café and Konami will showcase its upcoming lineup, including new Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid games. But what will Sony be presenting at E3 in Los Angeles this year?

Sony's scheduled for a 5pm (PDT) press conference on Monday, followed by a special event where they'll be showing off their breathtaking new games and handheld next-generation portable (NGP). With all of the recent hype they've been building in the PlayStation Blog about their upcoming products, no wonder Sony's event will last a record breaking 5 hours! They've got a lot to showcase!

The NGP looks to be the main focus this year, a new game device boasting a 5-inch touchscreen, a rear multi-touch pad, dual joysticks and front and rear-facing cameras. Some of the games for this new device include Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Hustle Kings, Sound Shapes, Super Stardust and a new version of Wipeout.

One of the best features of the NGP is its cross-integration, where PlayStation 3 gamers racing online with Wipeout HD Fury will be able to compete against NGP users playing Wipeout on the portable.

The handheld NGP should be exactly the same size as seen in the videos, only the units will have a better build quality when they hit stores.

There's no details yet as to how much the NGP will cost, when it will be released or what the 3G rates will be, and there's no telling if that information will be given at E3. Nonetheless, it's sure to be on every PSP owner's wishlist. It's just a matter of time.
